Eat some pies! – Steph

My sister has this friend from New Zealand, Steph, and whenever she sees a person who is small, skinny, or too uptight in life, she likes to tell them to, “Eat some pies!”

In honor of her, and the fact that I really like meat pies, todays blog will be my favorite pie recipe!

Meat Pie


1/2 onion (diced super small)

2 Tbsp. diced garlic

1 pound of beef (I use our home grown, which is about 98/2 — so 2% fat, as in very lean)

1 packet of beef gravy mix

1 packet of onion gravy mix 

2 cups water

**If you don’t have gravy mixes, use 2 cups of beef broth with 4 Tbsp. of flour, a little salt and pepper, and omit extra 2 cups of water. Simmer that all in a pan until it gets thicker!**

2 carrots (diced) — you can substitute any veggie — 

2 potatoes (diced)

2 packets of puff pastry (or make a double recipe of pastry – tons of recipes online)


Sauté beef until brown in butter (or oil) with onion and garlic.

When beef is cooked, add in gravy packets and water. Simmer for about 2 minutes. 

Add in carrots and potatoes, boil for about 20 minutes(veggies should be cooked). 

Grease 2 cupcake pans and line them with puff pastry dough. Fill with meat mixture and seal in the pies with puff pastry. 

Bake at 425 degrees F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
